White House Christmas Tree Came From Arizona

2009 White House Christmas Tree

A Christmas tree from Arizona? I know it sounds weird because you would think that Arizona would be supplying the White House with a saguaro cactus and not a 85 foot Blue Spruce but it’s true. Many people (including myself until I moved here 10 years ago) don’t know that much of Arizona is covered with pine forest and this year’s White House tree  came from the Apache- Sitgreaves National Forest which is located in higher elevations of the eastern part of the state.

This is the first time that Arizona has had this honor and come to find out the state donated over 80 other companion trees to be placed in various areas in the Capital Complex. The main tree was lit on December 8th and it is decorated with over 6000 ornaments that we hand made by Arizona school children.

Not bad for a state known for it’s deserts.

Much better than Aunt Selma and Aunt Patty's vacation slide shows, but not as good as being there. Click here...
